કોઈપણ ગર્ભવતી મહિલાએ ગર્ભસ્થ શિશુની નીચે પ્રમાણે જુદા-જુદા સમયે સોનોગ્રાફીથી બાળકની તપાસ કરાવવી જોઈએ
(૮ થી ૧૦ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) આ તપાસમાં બાળકની સચોટ ઉંમર કાઢવામાં આવે છે. જેથી ડીલીવરીની તારીખ વધુ ચોક્કસ આવી શકે છે. જેને Dating Scan કહેવામાં આવે છે. આ Dating Scan પરથી ભવિષ્યમાં થનારી જુદી-જુદી નીચે પ્રમાણેની તપાસ માટે તારીખો આપવામાં આવે છે.
(૧૧ થી ૧૪ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) આ તપાસમાં ગર્ભસ્થ શિશુના ગરદનની ચામડી પરથી બાળકનું મોંગોલ (મંદબુદ્ધિનું હોવું) સ્ક્રીનીંગ પરથી જોખમ નક્કી કરવામાં આવે છે. તથા કોઈ મોટી ખોડખાંપણ જેમ કે માથું ન હોવું (Anencephaly) ને પણ જોઈ શકાય છે. આ સોનોગ્રાફીથી ભવિષ્યમાં બ્લડ પ્રેશર વધવાની શક્યતા (Uterine Artery Doppler તપાસથી) જાણી શકાય છે.
(૧૮ થી ૨૦ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) (ખોડખાંપણની સોનોગ્રાફી) આ તપાસમાં ગર્ભસ્થ શિશુના અંગો જેમ કે કિડની, આંખો, મોટું મગજ, હોજરી, પેશાબની કોથળી વગેરે જેવા અંગોનો અભ્યાસ કરવામાં આવે છે. બાળકનો વિકાસ તથા ગર્ભજળ અને પ્લેસેન્ટાનો પણ અભ્યાસ કરવામાં આવે છે.
(૨૧ થી ૨૪ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) આ તપાસમાં ગર્ભસ્થ શિશુના નાના મગજ અને હૃદયના વાલ્વનો અભ્યાસ કરવામાં આવે છે તથા ખોડ ખાંપણ વધારે વિગતવાર અને ચોકસાઈથી જોઈ શકાય છે.
(૨૮ થી ૩૦ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) બાળકનું વજન તથા બાળકની આજુ બાજુના વાતાવરણ (ગર્ભજળ તથા પ્લેસેન્ટા) નો અભ્યાસ કરવામાં આવે છે.
(૩૨ થી ૩૭ અઠવાડિયાની વચ્ચે) આ તપાસમાં બાળકને નાભિ દ્વારા માતા તરફથી મળતા પોષણની તથા ઓક્સિજન ના પ્રમાણની જાણકારી મેળવવામાં આવે છે.
